Final Fantasy XVI: Platinum’s Dominant

Trophy 36: Hunter, Hunted

Official Description: Clear the Hunt Board.
Type: Silver
Earned on: July 22nd, 2023
Overall Earned: #2083

The very last hunt for me was Knight of the Splendent Heart. His dragoon moves were so annoying!

Trophy 37: For the Hoard

Official Description: Obtain all curiosities.
Type: Silver
Earned on: July 22nd, 2023
Overall Earned: #2084

Nice World of Warcraft reference there, trophy namer. All of the curiosities came from quests for beloved NPCs which made them feel special, even though the items are technically useless.

Trophy 38: Falling Star

Official Description: Fulfill a legacy.
Type: Gold

After the last Mothercrystal went smashy, Ultima summoned his huge crystal lair into the air and waited patiently for me while I did the million side quests that opened up right after that. To get there, Dion risks turning into Bahamut again to safely fly the Rosfields to their destiny.

The first cutscene fight has Bahamut, Phoenix, and Ifrit combine powers to damage Ultima. Dion sadly gets killed after that, and Joshua’s disease leaves him unable to move. Clive helps his bro into the final chamber where Ultima awaits.

Ultima reveals that each Mothercrystal contained a part of him and all the parts combine to reveal his true form. It’s not Final Fantasy if we’re not fighting a fully functioning evil god at the end, right? Joshua seemingly dies right before the boss fight, granting Clive more Phoenix powers on his way out (I’m not crying, you are). To end the fight you get to punch Ultima in the face and that made it the best boss fight ever.

With Ultima gone, Clive uses his Mythos powers to destroy all magic in the land and set the world on a brighter path. As the credits roll, he washes up on a beach and seemingly dies while Torgal starts howling and Jill sobs uncontrollably back at base. You can interpret either of the Rosfields surviving or dying which leaves a lot of questions unanswered. Schrodinger’s Clive until some DLC information hopefully drops, I guess.

Once you’ve seen the million people who worked on this game, a scene in the future plays out. Two kids are helping their mom make supper without any magic. There’s a book on the table called Final Fantasy by Joshua Rosfield and boys start playing in the yard by pretending to be Eikons. Interesting.

Trophy 39: Packing Heat

Official Description: Execute and land 2 Heatwave Counters in a single battle (excluding those in the Hall of Virtue).
Type: Bronze
Earned on: August 9th, 2023
Overall Earned: #2086

Main story done, but still loads of trophies to chase! Up until this point I hadn’t been paying attention to the Eikon ability related trophies. Oops! Luckily, the trophies were quite easy to farm from the enemies in the final area of Ash. The Akashic Plague shot a projectile that was easily dodged for the Heatwave Countering!

Trophy 40: Fatal Attraction

Official Description: Defeat 5 enemies in the air after using Deadly Embrace (excluding battles in the Hall of Virtue).
Type: Bronze
Earned on: August 9th, 2023
Overall Earned: #2087

A random purple bomb enemy was the 5th thing I brought to air demise after using Garuda’s Deadly Embrace.
