The painted land’s kindly boss will actually let you leave without fighting her, if you so choose. Unfortunately for her, I needed to cut her fuzzy tail off for a unique weapon, kill her for this trophy, and then forge her soul into another unique weapon later. My super-overleveled butt steamrolled her and I felt terrible. Sorry!

At long last, it was time to see what awaited me beyond the Dumb Forest Guys I’d been grinding souls from for ages. The first thing I encountered was a weird cat in a window who offered to recruit me into her Covenant. Since signing up was worth a trophy, sure! I think this covenant is all about PVP in Darkroot Garden so I have ZERO interest in actually doing anything with it.

Trophy 14: Defeat the Four Kings

The first thing I did before entering the last fog gate what put on my abyss ring. If you don’t have it on, you instantly die in in the void, so I definitely wanted to a-void that (see what I did there??). At the bottom of a twisty stairwell, I landed into the pitch black Abyss to fight the good fight.

The Abyss area feels so epic and the best way to beat the boss is my style: kill it, quickly!! As the boss’s name implies, there are indeed four of them. Each copy of the boss comes out after a set amount of time. It’s critical you kill each one as fast as possible to avoid fighting all of them at once. I equipped Havel’s armor set and aggressively flailed my way to victory on the first try. It also helped that I was level 111, no doubt.

Trophy 15: Covenant: Darkwraith

A trophy guide shamelessly followed made it quite clear I should NOT talk to the ugly serpent-thing, Kingseeker Frampt, when he appears in Firelink Shrine. Since I listened, an opposing ugly serpent-thing, Darkstalker Kaathe, appeared in the Abyss after I killed the Four Kings. I sided with Kaathe and he took me to place the Lordvessel in Firelink Altar via swallowing-me-transit. Gross.

Placing the Lordvessel where Kaathe took me opened up three golden fog gates across the land. I guess the goal of the game is to kill all four Lords and put their souls in the Lordvessel to unlock the final boss. Neat! The Four Kings were a Lord so 3 more to go.

Kaathe took me back to the Abyss and I had the option to join his evil covenant, which I did for this easily missable trophy. Yay for listening.
